Proudly introducing the latest addition to the Plane Chains hangar!
The De Havilland CC-138 is a utility aircraft based on the legendary DHC-6 and is operated by the Royal Canadian Air Force.
The CC-138 features incredible and unmatched STOL capabilities, reliability, and versatility. With just a small reconfiguration of the landing gear, the CC-138 can land on asphalt, gravel, ice, snow and even water.
For these reasons, in 1971 the RCAF ordered 9 CC-138s to be used for operations in Canada's vast arctic, and search and rescue roles.
This CC-138; 13805 was delivered to the RCAF in September 1971.
Since then, 13805 has served with the 400 Transport Squadron based in Yellowknife, NWT. 440 Squadron operates their 4 robust CC-138s year-round in some of the harshest conditions in the world.
13805 and the 3 other CC-138s will fly for years to come; a testament to the quality and timelessness of this Canadian aircraft design.
The plane Chains crew is honored to upcycle the left wing of 13805, which features the iconic yellow and red SAR paint scheme.
