Introducing Plane Chains
Looking for a unique aviation keepsake?
Proudly introducing the latest addition to the Plane Chains hangar; the classic Douglas C-54!
The Plane Chains crew is proud to honor the legacy of N500EJ, an aircraft that was directly involved with the Berlin Air Lift. These beautiful, historically rich chains are crafted from the engine cowlings of N500EJ, and feature a variety of colors.
These keychains are 3.6cmx8.8cm in size, they feature the original wear and tear of the aircraft, and are laser engraved with aircraft details.
About the aircraft: N500EJ rolled off the production line at Douglas in Santa Monica in 1945. She was accepted by the USAAF as 44-9144. Shortly thereafter she was transferred to the United States Navy, taking on the BuNo of 90414, and designation of R5D-4R. During her service with the Navy, she was converted to the C-54R, before beginning her contribution to the Berlin Air Lift. From mid-1948, up until the end of the blockade, 90414 flew as part of Navy squadron VR-3, flying transatlantic flights in support of squadrons VR-6, and VR-8.
After her stint with the Navy, she was transferred to the USMC where she flew a variety of transport roles, transporting everything from cargo to VIP personnel.
In 1975, her military career came to an end, when she was converted to a civilian cargo aircraft.
The Berlin Air Lift historical foundation eventually purchased this aircraft and restored it to flying condition. Registered N500Ej, the aircraft served for many years as a flying exhibit commemorating the Berlin Air Lift.
